Simple Fixes to Protein Problems
We’ve all been there, we left our shaker cup in our car overnight, and the following day when you open it up to wash it you’re met with a smell that could drop an elephant. Or you’re about to mix your favorite protein shake up and you shake is so lumpy that the thought of drinking it sends you right to your gyms smoothie bar. What about when you pack you protein shakes for work so you have meals but you despise having to carry 3 separate shaker cups or a nutritional store in you gym bag? Well there are simple solutions to all of these problems to make your lives simpler and to eliminate any supplement headache that could arise.
You know the smell, we’ve all forgot to wash our shaker cups after use and almost would rather throw them away as opposed to opening them. Even when you bare the smell and wash it, the cup always has a lingering smell of what once was. A smell that makes you wonder if what you’re ingesting is remotely good for you because after all, something that smells that bad couldn’t be healthy right? Well the solution to revitalizing your cups, and keeping them out of the landfill is located in your bathroom, and chances are you use it every day, or at least we hope so…mouthwash. Yes, that’s right, an ounce or so of mouth wash, and a few seconds of shaking leaves you a cup that smells brand new!
Okay, let’s confront the lumpy, chunky, and downright nasty protein shake. While brands do matter, even the best protein brands can produce a lumpy product when mixed. Some of the best blending proteins can in fact be sabotaged by the user if you make a couple mistakes. Let’s solve them problem. You always desire a nice, cold, and refreshing protein shake, so when you’re home you might throw ice into your water, or the water you’re introducing to your shake is so ice cold it might as well contain ice. The easy fix is room temperature water. Pour a small amount of room temp water into your shake, and shake vigorously for a few seconds. Then add you ice cold water which will provide you with a very cold protein shake minus the lumps. If this doesn’t work, then you might need to buckle down and buy some better protein, or enjoy your flavor crystals of powder.
Alright, myself included, I generally tote 3-6 protein shakes to work on a daily basis. It can take up a ton of room if you’re making each shake into its own shaker. Or perhaps you’re taking your entire protein container with you to work. Don’t do that, if you appear to have an abundance people will want to share and you don’t need to sample your personal supply. There are a couple simple fixes for you protein luggage dilemma. First, and most simple would be to buy a new shaker cup that has two compartments in addition to the main compartment. Generally one is designated to hold your vitamins, but just throw away the divider and you have yourself a perfect cubby hole for another scoop of protein. So if you store a scoop in each compartment it will allow you to have 3 meals in one cup. Another option would be to take your entire scoopage (yes that’s a word for athletes) say 3-5 scoops and shake it up at home with some water, you’ve just created a protein concentrate that is nearly as thick as cement, but protein dense. If you have an office then you can just add your concentrate to a water glass/bottle as your day goes by and just keep your protein intake consistent.
